Rhode Island boasts a gem of a park, Colt State Park, which opens to a panoramic view if the Narragansett Bay. Bicyclists can ride for miles through trails that stretch through approximately 464 beautiful acres of carefully tended lawns, flowers and fruit trees. Colt State Park is a great place to take all the kids, with ten amazing ahd different playgrounds on the grounds and six picnic groves. For even more fun activities, you can enjoy fishing, boating, and hiking. Colt State Park also offers boating and snow activities throughout the winter months.

Fort Wetherill State Park, a previous coastal defense battery and training camp, is popular for the amazing view of Newport Harbor. Scuba divers flock to dive here all year round, many from clubs found all over the United States. Water sports such as swimming, fishing, and boating are also available. Open year round, Fort Wetherill State Park is the place to picnic and hike the day away while you enjoy the fantastic view of the peaceful harbor.

Arcadia State Park is perhaps one of the largest parks in Rhode Island, at over 14,000 areas. As most of this is forest, the park is full of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and wildlife observation. The park boasts miles of beautiful trails that snake their way thru the forest. Water sports are also an option at Arcadia State Park. Bring your family or friends and kayak down the river, fish off of a boat, or try your hand at canoeing. In the appropriate months, hunting is permitted. Camping is allowed, but campfires are not permitted at Arcadia State Park, so plan accordingly.

Lincoln Woods State Park is a great park for those that enjoy water activities and sports. Lincoln Woods has a beautiful beach where the kids can play, and swimming is allowed in the waters, or try your hand at some trout fishing either off of the dock, or from a boat. Bridle trails are offered for those that enjoy horseback riding, or a walk through the tall trees can be fun for the whole family. Winter activities are also popular, as the park offers hills perfect for snowboarding and skiing, and the hiking trails transform into snowmobiling trails. Many people enjoy ice skating on the lake as well.
