Illinois Campgrounds

Illinois’ campgrounds are popular vacation sites for many visitors because of their beautiful scenery and many exciting activities. If you are an avid fishermen or just someone who loves the outdoors, this state has much to offer. By following some quick tips, you can make the most of your Midwest camping trip.

Planning a camping trip to Illinois requires a little foresight to ensure that your experience is hassle-free. There are many wonderful campsites to consider and you can narrow your search by making a few considerations. For example, campsites that offer quick access to your vehicle are good choices if you are traveling with children.

Your travel companions are an important factor in your selection of Illinois’ campgrounds. Many of these sites are in close proximity to fantastic recreational activities that are appropriate for any age group. Other sites are remote, offering the ideal setting for a getaway in the wilderness.

You may think of the Chicago landscape when you picture the state of Illinois but there are many rural settings for you to explore. The backcountry of this Midwestern state boasts scenic views and a host of exciting camp activities that range from fishing and hiking to water sports.

Your favorite activities can help you choose the right Illinois campgrounds for your vacation. There are RV parks, tent sites and areas suitable for camping trailers and motor homes. You may be attracted to lakes or state parks. Illinois offers many exciting options for you to consider that are close to these attractions.

Kickapoo State Park is a prime example of the many parks the state. Kickapoo offers two primary campgrounds that are suitable for tent and trailer camping. You can opt for a primitive campsite for your tent or enjoy a site that offers electrical outlets.

State parks like Kickapoo are often near lakes and rivers and many of Illinois’ campgrounds offer quick access to them. Plan to bring water shoes and lifejackets in case you decide to take on this kind of activity. Packing fishing gear in advance is a good idea, too.

You may need a camping permit for some sites. Make sure that you take your identification with you and any relevant documents. Some campers like to keep their travel documents organized in a folder that can be stored in the vehicle for quick access.

Choose at least three campsites when you organize your trip. Some Illinois campgrounds allow you to make reservations while others are strictly first come, first served. If you choose one that does not take reservations, you should choose a backup location in case your first choice is full.

Different sites offer different amenities so pack as if you are going to stay at a place that has no frills. Organize items in categories to make unpacking quick and easy. List your categories and brainstorm which items to pack ahead of time. Recreational equipment, toiletries, and food are three basic categories to consider.

A little forethought can help you make a smooth transition from your home to a campsite. Once you organize your trip according to your favorite activities and your company, the right Illinois campgrounds are easier to find.
