Ten.85 Café

Ten.85 Café
Prince George, British Columbia

Carol Broster came in on her day off (Sunday) to prepare our lunch. We were very flattered that she would make this extraordinary effort to make our stay in Prince George as special as it was.

Everywhere you looked was detail. From the tabletops (made by children from the local Montessori school), to the open kitchen (where Carol prepares meals from scratch), to the fresh flowers all around.

Carol greeted Peter and me as we entered the cafe. She smiled, brought iced tea and told us to choose a table. I loved the garden deck that people used to enjoy their meals. Today it was raining and we chose the window overlooking the deck. Cindy and Julie joined us shortly thereafter and Carol was right there taking our orders and bringing drinks for the ladies. It was so peaceful a setting. All the aromas coming from the kitchen only made us more hungry.

I walked around taking pictures and Carol said, "I hear you collect hats? Pick one!" It really made my day. Here she was on her day off, working and thinking about my interests. She is a very special person. Shortly, she had our meals before us.

We started with a fabulous Broccoli soup in a Parmesan bread bowl and a light tossed salad with a yogurt dill dressing. The main course was a sight to behold! Carol had put together a sampler for us! There was Korean Passion Fruit, Spinach Feta Quiche; Marinated Chicken Foccicia;Veggie, Ham & Shrimp Wraps; and Veggie 3-Cheeze Pizza. A feast fit for a king! Top all this off with Cherry-Rhubarb and Peach pies.....which she had baked at 6am that morning!

As we were stuffing ourselves with this great meal, Cheryl Kelly, director of Tourism for Prince George came by and told us she would be taking us on the next leg of our tour. Right afterward, Anne, from Borealis Back Country Tours, arrived for Cindy's planned canoe trip....which was cancelled due to the rain. Cindy was very disappointed. Both sampled Carol's cuisine and promised to return for more.

Carol's menus always change, but her energy and smile never quit. She is another gem we found in Prince George. She has created a unique and special cafe....a definite stopping place during your stay in Prince George. Ten.85 Cafe is located at 1085 Vancouver Street. The phone number is 960-2272. Be sure to stop by for lunch and let Carol know that Cruising America sent you her way!
