15 Chandeliers Bed & Breakfast
Anchorage, Alaska

James & Audrey Schefers had invited us to come see their B&B, "Where the mountains meet the sea." It sounded so beautiful, we hit the road.

Marie, their innsitter for the day, greeted us at the door after we parked the Eagle in the large parking area out front. She took us on the tour and gave us a choice of rooms. We decided on The Scott Royal's Room downstairs. It has a king bed, private bath with large shower, pedestal sink, TV, phone, desk and crystal chandeliers.

We had been to Beluga Point all day, in hope of seeing the famous Beluga whales. Sadly, we had missed them. But the hot shower with tremendous force washed away the disappointment. We decided to stay in and enjoy the B&B this evening, so we ate dinner in the motorhome. Cindy downloaded email and enjoyed working online for the first time in weeks, while I took pictures around the inn. In Alaska, Anchorage and Juneau are the only places that AOL has a local dialup. It has been very expensive for access on this trip and we very much appreciated a phone in our room!

Just inside the front gate, is a garden sitting area. As you enter the home, you are warmly greeted by a charming common area with sofas, refrigerator, table & chairs, snacks, fruit, cookies, yogurt and drinks. Cindy spent some time in this room relaxing with (what else!) a book. The pictures on the walls highlighted life in Alaska and a bear rug on the wall was a nice touch.

Jim and Audrey came home and we visited in their beautiful gardens at the rear of the home. Jim, who speaks fluent German, was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and then spent 10 years doing geological surveys in Alaska as a pilot. Audrey works in the treasurer's office with the City of Anchorage.

The home is decorated with both English and Scottish decor, including a complete suit of armor at the base of the stairs. It is centrally located to many areas in Anchorage, including downtown, the airport, zoo, ski areas, state park, equestrian center, Turnagain Arm, Portage Glacier and much more. We enjoyed a little TV and then drifted off.

The next morning, Marie had breakfast waiting for us. We started with coffee and orange juice, cantaloupe and bing cherries. There was a selection of cold cereals, apple cinnamon bread, scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. A good start to another busy day.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, relaxing home and hope that when you are making plans to visit Anchorage, you will check out their Website and be sure to tell them that Cruising America says HI!
