It's very easy to realize why people from all over the world visit and return to Adventurers' Country B&B in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Her name is Fern White. She tackles every job with confidence and energy. We saw her sit down only at the dining table. Otherwise, she was running a ranch, cooking or making sure the guests were comfortable.
Our room was spacious with a king bed, great sheets, white wicker furniture and a private bath.
Dinner included western style barbecue ribs, corn on the cob, baked potato, green salad with sweet-n-sour dressing (great!) and topped off with delicious chocolate cream cheese brownies.
Fern's cooking and recipes have won many awards, including those from the Contest hosted by Wyoming's First Lady. Many of her recipes are included in the Wyoming Homestay and Outdoor Adventures book, "Tastes and Tours of Wyoming.
The top choices of current videos in a separate living room for guests and the roaring fireplace created a perfect evening. We slept so comfortably that we woke up in the same position we had retired in. What a great night, but we were only halfway through our stay!
Breakfast, with a cup of fruit swimming in yogurt, western style omelets with sausage and biscuits, fortified us for the day. Walking out on the grand front porch Saturday morning to see Fern rousting the farm birds was hilarious. She disappeared into the barn and out came turkeys, ducks, chickens and geese. Wings flapping with a symbolic holler for being coaxed from their nests was quite a site.
Later in the day, Fern related a story about how a male goose had set on some orphan chicken eggs and the dilemmas he encountered trying to get the hatchlings to follow him into the little pond was another of her great stories about ranch life.
Her husband, Chuck, has worked on the Union Pacific Railroad for years and had some really neat stories about the history of the railroad.
There is an openness and frankness about Adventurers' Country B&B, Fern and Chuck, that has to be experienced to be appreciated. They are really great people! So, if you are in Cheyenne or have plans to be, give them a holler and enjoy!
