Brackenridge House Bed & Breakfast
San Antonio, Texas

Take a retired Air Force base commander, a fantastic interior decorator and one of the most historic homes in San Antonio and you have the makings of one of Texas' best bed and breakfasts. As they made their way through the ranks in the service, this dyno duo learned all the things needed to be successful in their efforts to provide optimum care for their guests.

After retiring from Randolph AFB, in San Antonio, this couple lived in an apartment along the Riverwalk. Benny would bring guests home for visits. After learning about B&B's, they decided they might as well get paid to have guests. They've been perfecting it ever since.

Our room (Karla's room) had a refrigerator stocked with drinks, TV, phone, king size bed, coffee pot and coffees and teas. On the bed was a quilt made by Sue's mom. The bathroom boasted a claw foot bath tub with shower and a Butler's basket in case we had forgotten anything. Magazines with tons of literature about local attractions and events were laid out on the bed for us. Bus passes were paid for and left out for our use. Like I said, everything was thought out and prepared.

After our tour of the home, Benny and Sue took us on a stroll and tour of the historical area they live in just a few blocks from the world famous Riverwalk. They took us to a Mexican restaurant (Rosario's) and we got way more than a meals worth. We continued on the walking tour of the neighborhood and went into an antique shop full of hard to find items.

We headed back to our room and worked. We enjoyed chocolates and I ate a bag of microwavable popcorn. We took a short walk with Lexxus and waited for the mail to be delivered by UPS. They came through again. While waiting, we enjoyed the Christmas lights outside the inn. We returned to the room, took care of the snail mail and then drifted off.

The next morning, we met the other guests in the sitting area and then breakfast was announced! It was a treat that started with a fruit bowl of grapes, cantaloupe, honeydew and peaches. Served with it was orange fluff juice, coffee and tea. The main course was Texas Eggs Benedict and Polish sausage. Pearch sorbet cleansed the pallet and was followed by a champagne toast to one of the guests' anniversary.......they had been married for 5 days!

Benny made a comment before we left, "Mike, we do the same thing you do. See the world. We just let it come to us…" It was just one more reason to like Inn owners, they are a special breed and we had found two of the best. It was an honor to stay here.

This is a great place to stay in San Antonio. Two honeymoon guests commented, at breakfast, that for what one hotel wanted to stay in San Antonio they could stay two more days at the B&B. They decided to stay longer and went on and on about the great breakfasts they had at the inn. Check out their Website, set your reservation and tell them Hi for us.
