Brighton House Bed & Breakfast
Vancouver, British Columbia

June met us at the front door of the inn. She has been at this 8 years and although we were early, she had everything in place. She took us to the second floor and let us chose our room. We chose the Folk Art room. It had French doors that opened onto a covered private balcony. Cindy smiled and we had just started. The room boasted a queen size bed, love seat, rocker and table & chairs with a fabulous view! Our private bath had a huge soaking tub with shower and skylight, lots of towels and anything we might have forgotten.

After getting the suitcase and laptops up to the room, I took pictures around the inn and in the backyard. I met the next door neighbor, George. He had some great stories about his life in Canada. Cindy and June sat out back on the patio and talked about her website and our travels. June made suggestions for the evening. The best was to suggest a more casual evening at a local cafe/tavern that June and Ken own. After hearing that it was modeled after a bar in Havana, Cuba, that it had a gallery of art and also a theatre.....we had to go! She mentioned "local colour" and we were quick to decide.

We showered while waiting for her husband, Ken to arrive home. Then we were off to "The Drive", which is Commercial Drive. We arrived at "Havana"! Inside and out were tables packed with customers. We had a great time. We were so glad we had a chance to experience this side of Vancouver. After dinner, we headed to where Vince Misceo, "The Ice Cream King of Vancouver" shows his expertise with over 400 types of ice cream in his recipe book and 168 different flavors in the store at any one time. On our way home, we went back by the bay and some small parks that highlight the waterfront.

At the inn, I quickly turned on the TV to see that the Lakers had won it all. Congratulations and also to the Pacers. It was a great series. Then I headed up and got back to writing and downloading pictures. Cindy traded out several books with June. We drifted off with the fog horns sounding in the bay.

We got to sleep in late, until 9 am. June said she enjoyed the break too. For breakfast, we were treated to strawberries with yogurt and granola and fresh hot croissants. There was orange juice and coffee and real English tea for me. Next came scrambled eggs and lox on multi-grain toast. Great meal!

June helped us with directions to the Ming Gardens in Chinatown and she came out to tell Lexxus goodbye and wish us safe travels. Another memorable review behind us, we headed out towards Hwy.1 again.
