Cedar House Inn
St. Augustine, Florida
Upon entering this 6-room Victorian Inn, a large and beautifully decorated Christmas Tree greeted us. St. Augustine will be having their famous "Nights of Lights" in about a week and Nina and Russ are getting ready. Travel magazines are also coming to town and it's time to have everything in place. Last December, Southern Living Magazine did a spread about the Cedar House Inn and it was great!

Russ and Nina greeted us at the door and took us on a tour of the Inn. We spent some time visiting with them and discussing the ongoing changes to the Inn that all innkeepers encounter. The common area of the home boasted a sitting area, library, table with a puzzle almost completed, guest refrigerator and amenities and an unusual row of photos. This was a neat idea! Each room was photographed, framed and attached by Velcro to a wall. When prospective guests stop by, the innkeepers are able to remove the framed photo from the row and give the guest a closer look at the room.....even if it's occupied at the time! Great idea!
 | Our suite (Tess's Room) was on the second floor, surrounded by decks with tables and chairs. It also had it's own private balcony at the rear. A great little sitting area with a stained glass window, sofa, telephone, TV and refrigerator greeted us. As we entered the bedroom a wonderful four-poster queen size bed faced the glowing antique electric fireplace. Cherubs decorated the walls and added to the romantic aura of the room. The bathroom boasted a large Jacuzzi tub and all the little items a guest may have forgotten. |
After checking in and visiting a while, we explored the area around the Inn, just 1/2 block from the Lightner Museum. Around the corner we found a great little theater. Check out Where the Eagle has Landed to read about this theater with a twist! After the show, we returned to the comfort of our suite to work and relax.
Russ, who is a Notary Public, has performed over 40 wedding ceremonies at the Inn. Prepared for any weather situation, the Inn is a great place for weddings.
After a great night's sleep, we headed downstairs for breakfast served in the dining room, set with beautiful china and gold tableware. Starting off with blueberry muffins, coffee and orange juice, we slowly came awake as soft music played in the background. Next came a fruit dish with cantaloupe, honeydew melon, bananas, grapes and a dollop of sherbet. We finished with a new dish (for us) and it was great.......Ruffled eggs with sweet potato gravy!
As we headed off, as always it was hard to leave new-found friends. Again, we can't say it enough…
"You don't get hugs when you leave a hotel!"
