Clauser's Bed & Breakfast
Lake Helen, Florida
| All decorated for the Autumn Season, we found Clauser's Place and it's owners,…, preparing for a large Thanksgiving celebration. Southern Hospitality Magazine had highlighted this Inn for it's attention to detail and it showed everywhere we looked! It's one of those inns where we instantly felt right at home. Coffee and homemade cookies were available all day in the cozy kitchen and there's a warmth and caring in the air that kind of feels like going to your favorite aunt's home. | |
We were shown to the Lancaster Room in the Carriage House, the newer section of the inn (1994), that had been designed to blend well with the existing structure. As with all the rooms at the Inn, it was very spacious, had it's own private bath and screened balcony. Our queen size bed was topped with an Amish quilt and the entire room was decorated with Amish and Pennsylvania memorabilia. The bathroom had all the amenities available that we may have forgotten and extra pillows, blankets and thick bathrobes were available in the armoire. With a TV and telephone, it was a great place for us!

Downstairs in the Carriage House is a fully licensed bar and just outside waited a huge hot tub enclosed in a charming gazebo. Thick towels just waited for the next guest to step up into the tub and relax.
After getting settled in, Cindy went to the room to get some computer work done, while I roamed around with my camera......everywhere I turned there was some great shot waiting for me! As I rounded the corner of the main house, I spied Cindy on the back porch.....sampling the coffee and cookies! So much for working!
| Don and Sue Robinson were also guests at the Inn tonight, a very nice couple from Hollywood, Florida. They were enjoying a romantic interlude before heading back home. | |
The next morning, another treat awaited us. Breakfast was served in the wonderful kitchen of the main house. Cindy just loves big eat-in kitchens and wanted to take this one with her (it's bigger than the motorhome, so I'm not sure how we'll do that!). A larger dining room is also available, but since there were just 6 of us for breakfast, we were served in the warmth of this cozy kitchen. With coffee, tea, orange juice and apple juice already in place, we were then served broiled grapefruit halves with just a hint of sugar on top. Next came Pennsylvania Dutch apple pancakes with lots of butter and hot syrup, along with bacon. Everything was served family-style, which just reinforced the feeling of being "at home".
The movie "Clover" was filmed at the Inn and the Clausers were very proud to be a part of it. With all the amenities available and lots of off-street parking, this bed & breakfast, tucked away in a small town but so close to everything is a great escape.....as well as a great place for the traveling business person.
Once again we headed out, sure we would not be eating lunch today after that great breakfast! A wonderful Inn with caring and charming innkeepers, Clauser's Bed & Breakfast is a sure bet when you're headed to Lake Helen.
