Deal's Bed & Breakfast
Anchorage, Alaska

When we arrived, instructions on the front door told us to make ourselves at home and that the hot tub and sauna were ready for us. We just smiled at each other and entered a paradise.

Kathryn and Leonard Deal had taken exhaustive efforts to make everything in the home cohesive. Each room looked like a B&B postcard. A lot of websites overplay their actual look. At Deal's, at least to us, it was the reverse. There was a comfortable common area, the large hot tub, sauna and steam shower as well as a deck with tables and chairs for relaxing.

One room had twin beds, one had a comfort selector allowing each person to select their level of comfort, and all the rest had king beds. Each had private bath, TV and VCR, HBO, a desk, phone, voice mail, modem port, robes, slippers, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, microwave, refrigerator. And ours had a 9-drawer dresser, side chairs and footstools.

Leonard arrived and we visited with him for a while. He had been president of the state B&B association for two years and his experience showed. The Deals are assisted in the operation of their Inn by their daughter, Annette. The Inn offers many different packages and discounts, so be sure to ask! Many business travelers come to the Inn both because of the fabulous comfort AND the essentials that are all there for them to keep in touch and conduct their business.

We ate dinner in the motorhome and then met Kathryn as she arrived home. I took pictures and then worked out on an exercise bike while Cindy enjoyed the sauna. There was a large hot tub, but we decided to return to our room and enjoy HBO on our 36-inch screen.

Cindy tried to catch up on her books. I listened to Colin Powell's state of the nation address (at the Republican Convention) and then watched a little more TV before returning downstairs to get more pictures. Cindy showered and I took a bath in the whirlpool tub and then we retired to the king bed.

For breakfast we had choices of mangoes, apricots, grapes, bananas, plums, yogurt, bear claws and cold cereal. Then, Kathryn arrived with broccoli cheese quiche, English muffins and 2 Deal's B&B coffee mugs for our travels (Cindy is getting quite a collection of these memorable mugs!). There was orange juice, coffee and tea available as well. A great start to the day! As we finished up breakfast, Leonard and Kathryn joined us and we discussed the B&Bs around the state. He entertained us with stories about his early days of homesteading in Alaska. He really should write a book! When you visit, make sure he tells you the story about the chickens.

Too soon we had to leave. Kathryn and Leonard are great folks and even gave us the name of another B&B in Ninilchik for us to visit in our travels. This is a wonderfully decorated, comfortable and elegant home in Anchorage, so be sure to visit their Website, make your reservations and be sure to tell them that Cruising America made the recommendation!
