Diamond M Ranch Bed & Breakfast
Soldotna, AK

The market is cornered in Alaska! This B&B has a campground, cabins, guest lodgings and is a working ranch. And they are just getting going.

The B&B is at the main house and when we arrived Joanne, the owner, was right there to greet us as we stepped out of the Eagle. She introduced us to a few of her family members and took us on a walking tour of the ranch part of the property. We met Carrol, her husband, as he rode up on a motorcycle he uses to cover the vastness of the property, and some of the grandchildren that were taking care of the livestock. Right away, he arranged for us to park the Eagle where we could plug it in! This was a great help to us since it had been several days since the refrigerator had operated on electricity instead of just propane! Then we took a tour to a rustic cabin that is secluded behind the barn area in the woods.

Upon returning to the main house, we climbed into Joanne's car for the rest of the tour. She took us through the campground which was very large and had lots of happy campers in it. Joanne said many were returning for another summer. Then we went to the cabins and were amazed. These were more like homes and had large porches that over looked the tundra area teeming with wildlife. These had been built by her son and had neat shake siding in the shape of fish heads.

Then she took us to their latest project. More rental rooms with recreation rooms as well. She also took us to another cabin. Then to the shower and restroom facilities that were as nice as anyone has in their home. There was also a double decker bus that still worked and will eventually become a cafe!

Upon returning to the main house, we were taken on a tour and shown to our room. We had a queen bed, dresser, desk and down comforter.

A short while later, Joanne called us to dinner. We had clam chowder and peach pie with vanallia ice cream for dessert with the family. We were told guests are often asked to join them. We certainly felt like part of the family.

The next morning we had a continental breakfast (at our request, since we needed to get a very early start) of bagels, toast, English muffins, lingenberry/banana bread, homemade jams, coffee, tea and juice. Both full and continental breakfast is offered to guests. A full breakfast may consist of German apple, blueberry or raspberry pancakes, strawberry waffles, ham and eggs or biscuits and gravy made with caribou!

It was a great start to our day! Be sure to visit the Diamond M Ranch Website, make your plans and tell them that Cruising America says HI!

Before making our way to the Diamon M, we were treated to lunch at River City Books & Espresso Cafe. This was a review that Joanne had set up for us!
