Villas Olas Tropicales - The Garden of Eden Found
(Tropical Waves in the Dominican Republic)

My mother, Nira, from South Carolina joined Cindy and me for one week in the Garden of Eden. Inside the walls of this renovated, reinvigorated adobe was a complete break from traveling and schedules with deadlines. For one week it was bliss. There is no way to explain it in a simple review. The owners of Villas Olas Tropicales - Keith and Deysi Hamilton - and their staff deserve so much more....So we are going to try a day by day approach.

Leaving Miami International Airport on Flight 601 Thursday evening was a lot different than how I usually start out a tour. A finger out the window of the Eagle and a holler of my infamous, "YO!" is the norm. The flight was great. As we traveled, I could see the chain of islands that lead down to the Dominican Republic. I studied the guides and found myself wishing I had practiced more in Spanish class at Hillcrest High in Carolina!

Although a storm threatened to make us land in Santa Domingo and wait it out, we circled the island a couple of times and landed in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic three minutes ahead of schedule. Another great job by American Airlines!

After clearing customs, we were greeted by a large Dominican bearing a sign with our names on it and a huge smile on his face. He introduced himself as "Benny the Jet". He hurried us to his taxi after depositing our luggage in the rear of the van. Benny would turn out to be our travel guide and companion for much of our stay.

We are creating a CD of our week in the Dominican Republic and anyone wanting to see samples should continue on through our review here. For more information on the CD and its availability, Click Here.

Keith Hamilton greeted us upon arrival at Villas Olas Tropicales, our home base for the next week. After a brief tour of the B&B, we were offered cold drinks and spent some time getting acquainted.

A resident of Puerto Plata for 7 years now, Keith purchased the site of the B&B and has made extensive improvements over the years. He added an additional building, with the innkeeper quarters on the second floor and guest rooms on the first, a restaurant area, garden areas and a lagoon stocked with fish. The pool, rooms and garden areas are kept sparkling clean by Keith and his staff and we were looking forward to a most enjoyable week. We were not to be disappointed. The Hamiltons were fantastic hosts and the children were absolutely charming! Be sure to check out all their photos under The Players.
