Cruising America! first visited the A. Drummond Ranch Bed & Breakfast in May for a tour and to gather information necessary for the design of their website. At that time we had the opportunity to view all the rooms, the barn and to meet the "locals" -- including the resident goose, Rebecca! She lives in the barn and claims it all as her territory....so be nice to her!
Our stay in August was spent in the Carriage House Loft and was a perfect retreat! We had just spent a week in our tent, in Denver. And although we love camping, we felt absolutely pampered at the Drummond's. Taydie and Kent Drummond are the perfect hosts. We were shown to our room, explained the mechanics of the intercom system if we needed anything and then left to our peace and privacy in this wonderful room.
The Drummond Ranch overlooks the Medicine Bow National Forest and you can see for miles from the wide picture windows in the Carriage House Loft. Everything in the room was planned with the guest's total comfort in mind. There is a window seat with great lighting for lounging back to read, a working gas fireplace for the evening chills in the area, a private deck complete with hot tub and gas barbecue grill. In the kitchen area was a bench table. Everything we needed to prepare the thick juicy steaks, that we had picked up in Cheyenne on our way to the ranch, was there -- and there was even garlic pepper in the pantry!
Hanging on the bath door were thick terry robes for guests to use. And anything that you may have forgotten in your rush to get away for the weekend could be found at your fingertips. The bath also features a sauna and shower.
The bed has to be experienced to understand how one could just lay down and melt into it.
The night we stayed, it stormed and rained some, which cooled the night air quite a bit. No matter, after the storm passed, we enjoyed the hot tub and then the fireplace! After a wonderful night's sleep, we awoke to the sounds of the birds singing. A coffee pot with all the fixings were in our room and then... it was time for breakfast, another treat!
Upon arriving for breakfast, we were introduced to four very pleasant ladies from Colorado that had stayed overnight as well and sat around the table, which was gorgeously decorated with English pearl handled silverware, and had a huge lazy susan in the middle. Taydie and Kent started us off with coffee, tea, orange juice and a bowl of fruit that was almost too pretty to eat! The fruit cup included strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, apples and walnuts. And topped with a beautiful tiny blue flower. The main course included sausage, individual egg souffles and great apple cinnamon muffins!
| Sadly, the time had come to have to leave the ranch. It was as close to leaving relatives that we could remember feeling! The only thing we regretted was not having time to enjoy the hammock under the trees... maybe next time. |
Our stay with the Drummonds was great and we highly recommend their B&B!
