Karol Paterman met us at the door and then showed us where to plug in The Eagle (it was much too hot for Lexxus!) and then spent the next 2 hours on the porchwith us telling jokes and acclimating us to Ashland, New Hampshire. With no real claim to fame, except for Nobel Prize Winner Whipple --- Cindy interjects here to remind me that the Glynn House is only 15 MINUTES from Keepsake Quilting! --- we knew we'd found a jewel in the Glynn House.
This Victorian B&B on a tree-lined street was home for the evening. Betsy arrived shortly after, along with some refreshing tea. She offered us a ride on a pontoon boat on Squam Lake, but we opted for dinner at The Common Man, a restaurant within walking distance of the B&B.
As we enjoyed dinner, Betsy & Karol talked about the White Mountains (only minutes away), Squam Lake, where "On Golden Pond" was filmed, and Lake Winnipesaukee, as well as tales of an innkeeper. They really knew the area and the best routes to enjoy all the beautiful surroundings.
Boston is 2 hours away, with Hartford and Montreal only 4, and New York City 6. You can't beat a couple of days at this B&B.
Our room was a suite in the Carriage House. French doors led into the living room to die for with fireplace, TV/VCR and great rugs! There was also a door from this room onto the porch. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed and AC!!! The bath was a wonder...whirlpool tub, cassette player with "mood music" and candles.
Breakfast the next morning was superb! Karol is the chef and served while Betsy entertained the guests -- and there was a house full! We had a fresh fruit cup with raspberries, blueberries, apples, canteloupe, waffles and an omelet with smoke sausage, fresh hot muffins, orange juice, coffee & tea.
All too soon, we had to leave for our next appointment.....but only after getting directions to Keepsake Quilting! When you are traveling to do all your quilt shopping, this is the Place to stay! Great folks, great food and wonderful company.
NOTE: It is our understanding that since our visit, the inn is now under the ownership of Jim and Gay Dunlop.
