Groveland Cottage Bed & Breakfast
Dungeness, Washington

Simone Nichols contacted us in Seattle and jumped on the last available day on our schedule that we could be in the Sequim area.

The first thing we noticed, as we arrived, were the flowers. They were everywhere. Char greeted us and allowed us to tour the 5 bedroom cottage to take photos.

We were given the French Room. It had a Queen-size bed with private bath and TV/VCR (all the rooms have one). The room had robes in the closet and a rocking chair as well. There were a lot of tapes. Books for guests to browse were located throughout the cottage.

The Great Room of the inn has a very large fireplace made of river rock. We had breakfast there the next morning. This room is used for large meetings and private events as well.

Before heading off for dinner, I met Simone. She had just come home from her "day job" as a realtor. She also rents vacation homes in the Sequim/Dungeness area. If you are interested in this, you should call her at 800-879-8859. Simone said she also caters off-site events, hosts special events and has "package deals". The inn has an outdoor barbecue for guest use.

One thing that she told me took me by complete surprise -- the Dungeness Spit is the longest sand spit in the U.S.

The next morning, we awoke to the smells of breakfast being prepared and headed down to the Great Room to eat and visit with the other 9 guests. As we were eating, I informed Cindy that ..."we have finally arrived". After she sat puzzled for awhile, I explained that we were the eldest (I'm not sure that she liked my choice of words) at the table. She looked at the baby that had just joined us and thanked me for "making her day"! I laughed and explained to the others our situation. They laughed, too. I like to think that the fact it was Memorial Weekend had a lot to do with it, as these younger folks would normally have been at work by this time on a Monday morning!

For breakfast, we started with coffee, tea, and orange juice smoothies. The fruit course was a mixture of cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries, apricots and honeydew melon along with banana-prune bread. Next came the entree - Uova-a-Cuccurlecu - an Italian dish of tomato/onion relish with scrambled eggs, served with fried potatoes and bread. It was all topped off by strawberry Boston cream pie.

Check out Simone's Website book your stay and tell her we said "Howdy".
