Klamath Riverside RV Resort
Orleans, California

We felt honored to spend our last night in California at a place that the local Native Americans feel is the place the world and universe began. We drove through the snow covered pass at Trinity Recreation Area and headed down into the peaceful valley. We met Mark O'Rourke as we stepped down from the Eagle at the Klamath Resort. I could tell that this life in the valley was agreeing with him. He cheerfully greeted us and said that Karen was off doing some volunteer work, as they have done for years, but would be returning shortly. Karen even used to be a politician. When asked about it, she just smiled and said,".....I found a better job."
Sitting under the snow capped mountains, with Klamath River flowing behind our motorhome, we understood.

Karen arrived home and Mark came over to our campsite to invite us to the house to try some cinnammon rolls and coffee. We sat around the dining table and Cindy explained about what we do. I was a little bit under the weather after getting soaked at the Be-Bop and Brew, but I hung in there. Soon they were talking about dinner and shortly Mark and Karen had barbecued chicken, salad and mashed potatoes set before us. They were the perfect hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with them. They do take care of their guests and I wish we could have stayed longer in this area.

After escaping from the corporate world, they had spent years making what was a worn down park into the thriving resort it is now. From the landscaping to the new in-ground pool, it has all been remodeled. There are still some visitors coming back after 30 years. Now that's a testimonial if I've heard one. And that's the result when a campground continues to grow and get better. In summer and fall - especially when the salmon and steelhead are running - the park is packed and on weekends activities like pot luck dinners lead to great outings and the making of lots of new friends.

The laundry room and restrooms were clean. The general store is in the office and had most of the items you would need. Also available for renting are 2 housekeeping cabins that share a kitchenette with all the dishes and utensils and on-site rental trailers. There are hot showers, a hot tub, a fish-cleaning station, picnic tables and campfire-rings. Sites are set apart in well-maintained grassy lots with flowers and bushes highlighting the areas. And to top it all off, the O'Rourkes also offer half-day float trips along the Klamath River!

We had to rise early because of our schedule. I took a few more pictures and copied them over for Mark and Karen. We stopped by, promising to return soon, but had to stick to the schedule. This is one of those spots that will be lingering with us and urging us to return and spend more time enjoying and relaxing!

This is a great park with great people running it and lots of friends visiting. If you are considering a get together... a reunion or just a family weekend getaway...or the perfect spot for fishing the Klamath River, do check out Klamath Riverside RV Park & Campground, and you'll be glad you did! Oh, and be sure to tell Karen & Mark that Cruising America made the recommendation!
