Lincoln Hill Inn
Canandaigua, New York

The Lincoln Hill Inn was originally an 1804 farmhouse. Purchased by Bill & Cheryl Ward in 1983, the home has been restored and has become a wonderful dinner retreat for the area. We were given the "nickel tour" by Bill, who pointed out some of the original brick walls that remained and explained the restoration process and renovations they had made. What were once bedrooms are now cozy dining rooms....there's even a small private one just for two! The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the Inn is well known for the weddings that are catered on-site.

Our waitress, Kate, seated us on the patio surrounded by huge pine trees and overlooking the grounds. Mike started with the shrimp cocktail and I had the onion soup, along with a basket of fresh rolls and butter. Mike was still commenting on how good his shrimp was when our salads arrived. He chose the garden salad with honey-peppercorn dressing and I selected the walnut & mandarin orange salad with honey-peppercorn dressing.

For our entrees, we went with beef this night. Mike enjoyed a 14-oz. NY strip steak cooked to perfection and my 9-oz. filet mignon in butter sauce was so tender I could almost cut it with a fork!

We try to order different meals to get a better feel for a restaurant, but dessert tonight just couldn't be different.....not once Kate told us about the chocolate mousse with roasted bananas and amaretto.
Fantastic!!!

In the menu for the Lincoln Hill Inn, the following is printed:

IF...there's a place between casual & formal, we're trying to define it
IF...there's a line between home cooking & gourmet, we're trying to walk it
IF...there's some balance between expensive & inexpensive, we're trying to maintain it
IF...there's an atmosphere that can make you feel at home & still pampered, we're trying to create it
AND...if there's a way to be friendly without being assuming, our staff tries to portray it

In our opinion, the Inn has lived up to every one of these goals!
Our meal was exquisite and the service was impeccable!
