Lisa Yordy had the fireplace roaring as I entered the waiting area. Everywhere you looked were pictures of Biltmore. The photos showed an artist's rendering of what life would have been like on the estate in years gone by. A piano sat ready in the formal common area and a couch was provided in a second sitting area. Books and magazines were throughout all the common areas. And the detailed woodwork was beautiful.

My room had a replica bed from the Biltmore House. It even had the rails and curtains and was accented by a large 12-inch button in the middle of the canopy. Two lamps were inset in the wall above the headboard for reading. A sound machine (the first in Asheville!), stained glass sun catchers in the window and a desk with phone and dataport accented the room. Finally B&Bs are considering business travelers and providing this amenity as well.

There was an 8-drawer dresser, a TV with remote and 2 chairs at the foot of the bed. I had a private bath with shower/tub, pedestal sink and an ice bucket with glasses.
After returning from dinner, I noticed my bed had been turned down and lemon-ice water sat ready.....what a nice touch. I "sneaked" downstairs to the guest kitchen, where there were brownies, fruit and chocolate chip cookies. I opted for the brownies!!!! And after my treat, drifted off to sleep.

| The fire was waiting at the bottom of the stairs along with the morning paper. I noticed the detailed ceiling tiles as I waited to be called into breakfast. Beautiful piano music played as snowflakes continued to dance outside.
A couple, enjoying five years together, from South Carolina joined me for warm Caribbean pears and a southwestern omelet. There was also available sauteed apples, biscuits and cornbread muffins. Served also was tangerine ruby red drink and tea. There were tomatoes, green bell peppers, potatoes and sausage. Boy, what a meal! | |
Make sure you get in out of the cold by visiting The Lion and the Rose and tell them we said HI!
