Mill Rose Inn
Half Moon Bay, California

After a brief stop at Venice Beach, we left the sandy beach and walked into casual elegance at its best! A regal, romantic retreat awaited us tonight at this Inn that is renowned for the weddings held in the courtyards.

Flowers, stained glass, fine crystal and elegant furnishings perfectly set the tone for romance.

Terry & Eve Baldwin have been innkeepers at Mill Rose Inn for 18 years - a record among innkeepers we have met! And it's easy to see why they have been so successful. Each room is a showplace for the unique Renaissance decorating style they have chosen and reflects the details that are so important.

Rose, a hostess at the Inn, led us on the grand tour, including the Hot Tub Gazebo in the rear courtyard. Available privately, you just sign up for the hour that you want and it's all yours. Inside the gazebo are plants and flowers galore as well as adjustable lighting to set the perfect mood. Robes await each guest in the rooms, along with extra towels.

Guests are provided with a choice of champagne breakfast in the dining room, or in their individual suites, the San Francisco Chronicle is delivered to your doorstep each morning and there is an extensive video library available as well.

We were shown to the Renaissance Rose suite, which included a large parlor with 2 sofas, window seat, desk and telephone. Again, there were many floral arrangements throughout the suite, all of which complimented the decor. In the foyer of our suite were umbrellas available in case of inclement weather. The bath boasted a huge clawfoot bathtub with shower, curling iron, hair dryer and all the amenities we may have forgotten. There was a coffee pot with a wide selection of teas and coffees, a refrigerator stocked with beer, wine, water and soft drinks, and brandy or sherry available for our use.

The bedroom was fabulous! We were greeted by a king size brass bed with a featherbed and lots of pillows, a window seat, table and chairs, TV/VCR, clock radio tuned to soft music playing when we entered, gas fireplace and telephone. With all this romantic space available, we had opted for breakfast in our room for a change.

But, first, we had dinner reservations, arranged by Mill Rose Inn at the Moss Beach Distillery!
Upon our return from dinner, we collapsed onto the featherbed for a great night's sleep!

At precisely 9:00 a.m the next morning, Terry arrived with a breakfast to die for! We started with champagne, orange slush and a honeydew melon wedge with blueberries, kiwi, strawberries and bananas, along with coffee and tea. As we dallied over this course, another knock on the door produced the main selection for breakfast! Fruit & cheese delight, bacon, English muffin toast with butter and jam and a watermelon wedge completed this wonderful breakfast.....another breakfast that would guarantee that we could indeed miss lunch today!

Too soon, it was time for us to leave this 4-diamond award inn and continue on our tour. As we left, we promised to return one day soon and see the newest gazebo under construction in the garden.

As you plan your next romantic retreat, wedding or just a weekend away from the hustle and bustle,
visit the Mill Rose Inn Spa & Garden Suites website and get lost in casual elegance.
Oh, and be sure to tell Terry, Eve & Rose that Cruising America says Hi!
