Country Oaks Campground & RV Park

The beautifully gated entrance hinted we were in for a great park. It was late summer and despite the humidity and heat, there were enough shade trees to make a nice review possible.

The focal point at Country Oaks is the general store. It serves as the registration office, bath house and congregation area.

A Winnebago travel group of about 20, from the Jacksonville area, was visiting and some of them were on the porch swings at the front of the store. They commented how they had returned for years to this park. The management and cleanliness were the main reasons they gave for doing so.

The laundry room was nicely decorated, as was the entire wrap-a-round porch that had memorabillia from by-gone eras. One of the visitors explained what the items were and all I remember thinking was how far we had come with technology.

The grass was freshly cut and I enjoyed the smell as I headed towards the on-site pond. Ducks swam nearby and I sat in a chair provided on the dock to take in the water spout in the pond. Fresh water entered through a pipe at the far end of the pond. Boats also were nearby for those that felt more adventurous. But you know me and water...

There was a beautiful black horse that grazed beside the pond that later I learned pulled a carriage that the owner took campers for rides in the evenings during the winter months. He seemed to enjoy having his picture taken and would pose as I raised my camera.(Must have seen other campers too...)

The site we had was so level we didn't need any blocks. We were close to the main building and it was laundry time, so I headed that way while Cindy went into the registration office to download her email. It was decorated nicely and very clean, as were the restroom and shower areas.

This is a quiet, peaceful campground and one we wished we'd had more time to enjoy. We recommend it and hope you will tell them we said "hi" when you make your way there.
