As guests at the Inn, we spent the afternoon working and taking photographs, then entered the Brodhead Room for dinner....and a feast fit for a king!
We were seated by Joanne, who handed us the menus and detailed the evening's specials for us. First off, I was charmed by the menus. They were inserted in the center of various old books. What a great touch! The tables were set with linen and fine china and Lindsey immediately arrived to fill our water glasses and take our drink orders. On her arrival, she brought us a plate of lemon sweet bread and blueberry bread along with honey butter. John Garman (our host) had earlier boasted of the skill of his chef and dining staff and told us that all the breads, salad dressings and desserts, as well as the menu entrees, are made at the inn.
Our waitress, Sabina, arrived to take our orders. The menu consisted of so many fine choices (and the menu is changed seasonally), that we both had a difficult time deciding. Mike finally settled on the surf & turf, a 12 oz. lobster tail and 4. oz. certified Angus filet. I chose the grilled tuna w/rosette of herb butter. But first came the soup du jour - Cream du Barre, a wonderful creamy cauliflower soup. This was followed by our salads. Mike chose the creamy herb dressing for his and I selected the strawberry vinagrette. The salads were topped off with real bacon bits and fresh ground pepper and served with more of the Inn's homemade breads.
After a sherbet to cleanse the palate, our entrees arrived. As you all know, Mike loves to talk, even during dinner. But this meal was so good, that he barely spoke a word until near the end. His steak and lobster were done to perfection, as was my grilled tuna. With a side dish of broccoli and various veggies, there was an amazing amount of food on our plates......and still more to come!

Without a doubt, this was one of the best meals we have ever eaten. The atmosphere was great, the service efficient and the food superb. We can recommend that any time John has the sign out at the road announcing that the Inn is serving dinner....be SURE to stop!
and be sure to tell them Cruising America said "HI!"
