Pintail Point
Queenstown, Maryland

Lou Schaffer needed a place to "get away" from the bustle of Baltimore. His car dealerships were stressful and he wanted a hunting retreat. He found Pintail Point. He has since bought several parcels of land (now approximately 1800 acres) and enterprises until his retreat has become a vacation destination for others.

You can about choose any vacation activity, and it's here. The Point offers fishing charters, flyfishing, sporting clays, 2 bed & breakfasts, site (personal or corporate) rentals, boat charters, a new golf course, duck and deer hunting. They also offer dog obedience classes and boarding and they will board your horse as well.

The Point has its own dairy, which supplies among others, Land 'O Lakes. There is an 18,450 square foot greenhouse that, thanks to Ryan and his fellow workers, keeps Bell Nurseries and Home Depot in flowers.

The golf course is called Hunters Oak Golf Club and has recently opened to the general public. It is styled after British and Scottish links country clubs. It even has its own "Big Ben". The clubhouse will offer complete workout areas and saunas for women and men. They are adding a Scottish pub, with the grand opening of the Dornoch House to coincide with British Open Week. The bar was built in California and is being shipped in.

The Wingshooting Academy program is run by Ben Wise. Bob took me out onto the course with a Berretta 12-gauge Urika and allowed me four shots at the sporting clays. I got lucky and hit all four! It was really fun. They'll let you shoot 100 rounds for $30, if you are a member.

The flyfishing classes are provided by Orvis. Prices for different activities differ depending on membership, so make sure to check out how much you can save having one!

The Pintail Fleet of boats includes the Lady Pintail, the Princess Pintail, and Miss Pintail which offer a diverse range of capabilities, activities and packages. For large or small groups, casual or formal, the fleet has the perfect match.

Of course, Schaffer's greatest find might have been Carol Johnson. She has been with Schaffer for 17 years and is the Sales and Special Events Director. Carol started out with the Bed & Breakfasts on the property and now is in charge of the daily activities for about everything.

Whether you are a novice to these activities, or close to professional, you'll love the Point! From the ladies in the front office to General Manager Kevin Compton, they will make sure your stay will always be memorable "On The Point".
