River Park Inn
This town is renowned for its mineral water spring that has fed the town's swimming pool since the 1880's. It has drawn people for over 100 years and this weekend it drew me.
I arrived too early and decided to park the car at the inn and stroll around. Delightfully, I discovered the town's namesake less than a block away. The spring produces over 3000 gallons of water a minute. Was this the fountain of youth?
The Historical Society is working to save a hotel in front of the spring and other features around the area. After touring the area, I could understand why. This is the "Heart" of the town.
I went back to the Inn and met Pat returning from a shopping spree. She ushered me in and we went on a tour of the 5-room Inn. All the rooms have private baths. The master suite has a whirlpool tub.
I ate a local restaurant (a pitcher of tea and a bucket of oysters!) and then went to a movie at the local theater. I returned and helped Pat a little with her website HTML before heading off to sleep.
For breakfast we had pink grapefruit, apple-cheese strata and bread done-in-the-middle. There was orange juice and tea. I visited with some nice ladies from Brunswick, GA, a bookstore owner from France and a sweet lady from Essex, England. We sat around for a while visiting and telling our adventures that had brought us to the Inn.
I went back across the street to the park and took more pictures of the river, squirrels and the spring. I wish I could have just sat there for a few days soaking up the peaceful feel of the park......however, I had to head for St. Augustine.
If you are planning a trip to this area, check out this Great Inn and be sure to tell them Mike says HI!
