Sailfish Hotel & Marina
Palm Beach Shores, Florida

The Marina was hopping with activity as we arrived for our review. An infomercial was being done on the docks by Andy Mills (Chris Everett Loyds' husband) of Field & Stream on TV, the world famous restaurant was in it's final stages of construction (expected completion is in two weeks) and people were everywhere having fun. The parking lot was packed, a sure sign of a business doing the right things.

After parking the motor home, our hostess and the activities director, Sherene showed us to our room. The Bonita would be home for the night.WE had a TV, complete kitchen with utensils. and dishes, refrigerator, microwave, stove top, oven & sink. The bath had a tiled shower and lots of towels. Our spacious room featured blonde furniture, a queen bed and 2 twin beds, glass top table and 4 chairs. No telephone, but this hotel and marina has long been known for it's fishing retreats.

Cindy worked up until time for her boat tour that showed off some of the most beautiful homes in the country. Sherene provided her with Diet Pepsi's and a Sailfish Hotel & Marina drink holder, so she was all ready when The Palm Beach Water Taxi, piloted by Captain Jim Barry, took off right on schedule for a tour of Palm Beach Harbor. With explanations and commentary from the Captain, it was an enjoyable learning experience. Many of the multi-million dollar homes along this waterfront are never inhabited by their owners. Amazing! In a delightful, funny way, Captain Jim told the stories behind several of the mansions we could see from the water. Definitely a tour to take while you're here!

I decided to see Palm Beach Shores better and at a slower pace. So I got aboard a bicycle for the first time in over 30 years. I was a little wobbly at first but managed to take pictures of the Island where an underground bunker had been prepared for John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile crisis. The bunker is now open to the public for tours on the weekends. I also got some nice photos of some sea going vessels and public beaches.

I returned to take pictures of Andy fishing just as a school of Jack fish hit the docks. John Carter was in charge of the infomercial and after the work caught a jack, right after Andy did. They were like kids in a candy shop. Both, definitely picked the right career fields for themselves.

The hotel boasts many guest rooms, pool, laundry facilities and soon to be completed 150-seat restaurant. The unique design of this building will allow 3 of the walls of the restaurant to be opened completely up to welcome in the breezes off the water. The local residents as well as guests from surrounding areas are looking forward to the re-opening of the restaurant at the Marina.....they are renowned for their plentiful breakfasts.

All of the staff were friendly and very helpful. Sherene even allowed us to use her office after hours (the night guard let us in) to download our email and send up a few files.
