Schroon Lake Bed & Breakfast
Schroon Lake, New York

For a few days prior to our visit, when we told folks where we'd be staying, an "ohhh" or "ahhh" would precede their acknowledgment that we were in store for something really special. They spoke on and on about our hosts, Rita and Bob Skojec. After hearing about the great breakfast, and seeing the home up close, we decided to really relax.

Rita met us on the front porch, offered us cool drinks and Bob let us park near the garage and plug in the motorhome, so Lexxus would stay nice and cool. We really appreciate this extra service that all the innkeepers have gladly done for us. Traveling with a pet is very much like traveling with a child and everyone has been so nice about this during this unusual heat wave in New York.

Mike went on his usual picture taking spree while Rita and I stayed on the porch to discuss the details of the restaurant that Rita had booked for us later that evening. I noticed the soft music playing in the background as we entered the house to begin our tour. Still taking photos, Mike commented, "Everywhere you point the camera is a great picture."

Our room was the Pharaoh Suite. Two separate bedrooms and a private bath highlighted the suite and gave us greatly appreciated privacy. This room would be just right if you had kids traveling with you. We slept in the Blue Wicker room with white brass twin beds, white wicker furniture and dressing table. It had a great view of the mountains. All rooms come complete with bathrobes and other amenities. Each guest room is also air conditioned, an added bonus that we appreciated with the high humidity! The beds were extremely comfortable and we both slept like babies.

Located on the second floor was a large common area, with TV, books, games and a telephone on a small table.....just right for getting our email and another common room downstairs was available for the guests. After running to see some of our customers in the area, we returned, showered and headed for the restaurant. After another low fat (yea right!) meal, we headed back to our suite and to some much needed work.

Built in the 1920's, the Inn has been wonderfully renovated with all the modern conveniences without losing any of the old-world charm. Hardwood floors, oriental rugs, antiques and Tiffany-style lamps abound. Each of the 5 guest rooms is air-conditioned and elegantly decorated with designer bed linens and comforters. It is a home right out of the pages of a magazine.

Upon our arrival, Bob and Rita asked about dietary restrictions so that they could modify the next day's breakfast to suit our requirements if necessary. And what a breakfast it was!!! As we entered the elegantly appointed dining room, we knew we were in for a treat! Breakfast started with fresh fruits - strawberries, raspberries, bananas, blueberries, grapes, Bing cherries, honeydew and cantaloupe -- along with granola mix and cottage cheese. There was orange juice and cranberry-raspberry juice, coffee and tea. Rita arrived with mini lemon-poppy seed and blueberry muffins. Bob then served us apple-walnut French toast with burst-of-berry sauce and "real Adirondack maple syrup" and bacon. The meal was fantastic!

As we were leaving to go to dinner, we overhead one guest say, "Vermont has nothing on this Inn."
The next morning after breakfast, another guest commented, "Now THAT was a breakfast!"
