Southern Wind Inn
Footnote to the story....The St. Augustine B&B Association has been renamed. They are now the St. Augustine Historical Inns or SAHI (Say Hi)
Southern Wind Inn had confirmed for their review when I was at Green Cove Springs, so I took the short drive over to St. Augustine and all the beauty the oldest city in America has to offer.
Bob welcomed me in and started the tour. Alana was right there, offering lemonade, for which I was grateful. The heat of early spring, along with the humidity, was evident. After a half-day of walking around the Fort ruins and historical shopping district, taking photos, I needed a cool drink. It was perfect.
I was shown to the Flower Room. It had a queen bed with a two 3-drawer matching night stands. There was a 13" TV, 2 chairs and a table, desk, 3 lamps, overhead fan and an alarm clock. There were also magazines and books. In the closet was an iron and ironing board, pillows, blankets, 2 terry cloth robes and a huge space heater.
The private bath had soaps and conditioners. It had a shower/tub combination. I decided to shower and allow my batteries for the camera to recharge and waited until early evening for dinner.
Just before twilight, I headed toward the water. The sun was sinking in the distance as I ambled into the Tropical Winds Lounge and enjoyed some of the local talent on stage. I continued to walk around the historical area and happened into a pizza pub for supper. Then, I headed back to the inn.
As I sat on the second floor wrap around verandah enjoying the cool night air and a cold Pepsi from the fridge, I listened to the waterfall below....I awoke to the thought that I was late to call Cindy. Now this was peaceful! It had been a long time since I had napped. I felt fresh and visited with some of the inn guests before returning to the Flower Room for the evening.
Breakfast was at 8:30, so I headed downstairs. There was a beautiful fruit bowl of strawberries, red & green grapes, kiwi, cantaloupe, bananas and grapefruit wedges. There were granola cereals, with yogurt, raisins and nuts. Tea, coffee, honey, orange juice, cranberry and V-8 juices waited. After you had gotten warmed up, Alana brought in a huge portion of baked apple and cream cheese stuffed French toast!
