Walker House Bed & Breakfast
Petersburg, Virginia

Conner greeted me as I pulled in. Cindy had gone to do some shopping. So Conner took me around the gardens and grounds until she arrived. The home was historic and had served as a Court of Inquiries at one time.

Conner explained that he and his partner, David, had only been open about a year, but it had been "in the works" for 3-1/2 years. You could see the detail being taken with many on-going projects. He had reclaimed a large portion of garden area and re-channelled the waterway to create a peaceful retreat.

Cindy arrived and we went inside. The home was spotless and was beautifully decorated. After the tour, Conner asked if we would care to review a local restaurant. We agreed to go to The Brickhouse Run and Conner made the arrangements. We love to do restaurant reviews!

Conner showed us to The Autumn Room for the evening. We had a four poster king size bed with night stands (one was an antique Singer sewing machine). There was a fireplace, TV/VCR, phone (Cindy's happy!) and plants. A sofa and chair sat at the foot of the bed in front of the fireplace with an antique trunk which doubled as the coffee table. Nearby was an gorgeous antique armoire. There was a CD player and alarm clock. The room had lots of great windows, but also sported an air conditioner. Our private bath was done in deep burgundy colors with gold fixtures. The floor, walls and double shower were marble. A butler's basket rested on a small shelf and had everything available that we may have forgotten.

For guest use there was a butler's pantry on the second floor with refrigerator, cookies, coffee, teas, soft drinks and water. Off the pantry was a balcony with lounge chairs and tables. In the hallway, there were enough videos, books and magazines that it would have taken us weeks to enjoy them all.

After dinner, we walked around some of the old cobblestone streets in Old Towne Petersburg. Then, we returned home for some videos and more picture taking. We drifted off to a great night's sleep.

The next morning at breakfast, we met a great group of folks. There was a international dog show judge, an arbitration attorney, David (the co-owner of the Inn), a couple from Maryland that were retired and Conner. We all sat down to breakfast together. David is the chef and set a lovely table. The meal was served family style.

We had orange juice, tea, coffee, strawberries, grapes, cantaloupe and whipped cream. Then came apple slices in English custard sauce with raisins and nuts. There was bacon and scrambled eggs, crab benedict and blueberry scones.....another feast!

Only a year and already pros at what they do, Conner and David have a masterpiece at work. Make sure to check out their Website and tell them we said HI when you book your stay.
