Watchtide Inn Bed & Breakfast
Searsport, Maine

A life-size Angel waved at us as we entered the Watch Tide driveway. First we went into the adjacent gift shop, where we met Nancy-Linn and Jack. She showed us hundreds of angel related products, antiques and her famous "balsam pillows". The Garden Room Art Gallery was still in the works, but was starting to take shape nicely. Another great thing about staying here is that "guests" get 15% off everything in the gift shop.

The tour of the house was highlighted by the back porch. Searsport is still an active seaport. It was great to watch the little "tug" boats go out and retrieve the big oil laden ships. The binoculars were handy on the back porch and Mike spent hours watching birds, a fox, wood chuck and all the beautiful flowers. Cindy chose to curl up with another Stephen King novel.

On our tour, we were told a great story from Nancy-Linn about "Connie". Connie seems to be the Watch Tides' friendly ghost. She has been seen by a few folks and everyone has seemed to accept her readily enough. We stayed in the room that Connie often visits. I missed her, but Cindy assured me that if she awoke and saw "Connie", I too would be awakened!

That evening it was cooler than it had been, probably because of our proximity to the sea, so we chose to leave the windows open and enjoy the night breeze. This was great. The night was perfect.

At breakfast on the back porch we were treated to cantaloupe with raspberry sorbet, pear juice with raspberry & blueberry ice stick, ploy (a small crepe made with buckwheat flour) with maple or raspberry syrup, home made sausage - a specialty of the inn and made on-site, coffee and tea. Soft music played in the background during breakfast, as it did during our entire stay.

This is a place especially for a romantic getaway. Next time you are "IN THE MOOD"!!!, check it out. Visit their Website when planning your Maine coastal vacations!
