A Weaver's Inn
Eureka, California

The wonderful gardens at this Victorian B&B greeted us as we approached A Weaver's Inn for our review. Cameras clicking away, we were still phtographing the outside of this 1883 home when Lea, our hostess, met us at the door. We entered a foyer from a time past, one which shows that this beautiful home has been loved and well cared for over the years.

Lea gave us the grand tour of the home, which boasted the genteel elegance of the Victorian era. Everywhere were period pieces of furniture and lighting. Tucked into corners and on tables we found the delightful hat pins, lace gloves, trinket boxes and more that are a hallmark for a true Victorian.

A Weaver's Inn offers 4 guest rooms, all beautifully appointed and inviting. In the hallway upstairs is a desk with a phone for guest use, a small refrigerator and a closet full of books, games and puzzles.

We were shown to the Pamela Suite, our retreat for the night. As we entered the 3-room suite, we instantly felt at home. The sitting room offered a great view of the gardens below. There is a working fireplace, a Victorian settee, books and a small sofa bed. The sitting room allowed us plenty of space to get some work done! If traveling with a child, this would be an ideal room choice. Between the sitting room and the bedroom are pocket doors which slide out from the walls, allowing for more privacy. The bedoom boasted a very comfortable queen size bed with lots of pillows, an armoire and a bench. The bath was long and narrow, with a great tiled shower and in the closet were robes for guest use.

Next, we toured the gardens! We strolled through the parlor and dining room, out to the side porch with its wicker furniture and into a burst of color. Our hostess definitely has a green thumb! The plants were all thriving and flowers bloomed everywhere. While visiting on the porch, we met the other guests at the Inn for the night, including one who was also preparing to write a review of the Inn. Caleb is an energetic little fellow (who was definitely enjoying his stay), so be sure to check out his review at: Caleb's visit to Eureka, CA and see this pet-friendly inn (by prior arrangement only) from the pet's point of view!

When we returned to our room after having dinner at the Samoa Cookhouse, our bed had been turned down and the truffles that mysteriously appeared were to die for! They came from one of the local shops. Lea is one innkeeper who does her best to do all her shopping locally and share the many treats that her community has to offer to visitors.

After a great night's sleep, we started our day off with breakfast in the dining room, served on fine china, linen and crystal, with coffee, tea and fruit juice frappe. Our first course was a peach parfait that tasted as good as it looked, along with walnut & cinnamon muffin bread. Next came eggs Florentine with rosemary baked eggs and mushrooms (and bless her, Lea left out the mushrooms for me...although Mike enjoyed his!), along with baked chicken apple sausage. Our meal was topped off by a signature dish of the Inn, broiled berries and cream. What a way to start out!

Soon, it was time for us to return to our RV park and get some work done, so we said our goodbyes and headed out once again. When you are visiting Eureka and want a quiet stop for a day or longer as you explore the north coast, be sure to visit the website for A Weaver's Inn, make your reservations and tell Lea that Cruising America says Hi!
