Wild Rose Campground
Hope, British Columbia

We arrived in Hope realizing that tomorrow we would be "beyond Hope", but for today we had hope. We checked in early and got to work.

Marilyn was glad to see us and gave us information about the area. She put us in a secluded site. The campground was so green. The huge amounts of rain in the area over the last few weeks had made it lush and the grass had just been cut, leaving that great smell.

The park was about half full and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The kids were playing on the swing set and the older kids had organized a volleyball game. The park had flowers all over and the rain made them look like they would burst. The park is landscaped and was super clean. The restrooms, showers and laundry room were in perfect working condition.

There were three basic areas. The closest to the office was where the family groups and the playground were. The second (where we were) was smaller units and just couples. The last area was for tenting.

I went down before we left and gave some firewood to some kids tent camping and talked with them about the park. "We always stay here because the mountains surrounding the park are great for climbing," said Derek from Alberta. "Naw," said Jay, also from Alberta, "We come here 'cause Marilyn treats everybody like family and she's the best."

The area offered so much to do, but we had to work. We would have gone to Hell's Gate, the Air Tram, or to the local hot springs that Marilyn had shown us as part of their local "day trips", but after a brief drive through town to take photos of the their famous chainsaw carvings, work called! In the office was a small store and loads of information about the area. The park is between the coastal mountains and the mighty Fraser River, so that area is teeming with things to do.

If you are heading through Hope, stop and see Marilyn and park "under the trees" or "under the stars" at Wild Rose Campground, a modem friendly park and a member of Good Sam!
