Our Review | The Location | The Music
In addition to the two main stages and the emerging artist stage, there were a lot of other attractions inside the venue.
Sections of the wall were ultimately to be sold to benefit the Red Cross International Relief Fund to support the refugees from Kosovo.
Late Sunday afternoon, a group of about 100 stormed one section of the wall and began to tear it apart for souvenirs. We were told that order was quickly restored and the wall repaired. We hope that was the case, but saw several attendees walking through the parking area carrying pieces of the wall.
ART PROJECT
An exhibition of artwork by both amateur and known artists was on display as a benefit for the "Water Keeper Alliance", an environmental organization headed by Bobby Kennedy, Jr. The exhibit also included photography from "Get Back", an international touring exhibition of the Art of Woodstock from 1969 to 1994.
TIBETAN BUDDHIST MONKS
A sacred sand mandala ceremony was created by 20 Tibetan Buddhist monks during the festival. There was also chanting and dance in traditional ritual costumes. The monks occupied a tent next to the eco-village, which housed environmental and not-for-profit organizations.
JIMI HENDRIX RED HOUSE EXHIBIT
A high tech, interactive tribute to the one and only! A large video display featured newly restored footage of Hendrix on stage before a large crowd. It highlighted some of his most memorable concerts.
There were more than 700 images that created an electronic museum with displays of the stories and artwork that have become part of the Hendrix lore. Several cases displayed his guitars and samples of his psychedelic "threads".
FILM FESTIVAL MARATHON
One of the few places to escape the sun was at the film festival. Housed in one of the former hangars, it was sponsored by the Independent Film Channel and showed 80 hours of films ranging from the classic documentary Woodstock to new releases.
FOOD & DRINK & MONEY
All along the 2/3-mile venue were food and drink vendors, as well as the 2 beer gardens. Free water was available in several locations. For cold water, you needed to see a vendor......at $5 per bottle! Food prices were high...$4.00 for French fries, $12.00 for a hamburger......you get the idea. I'm sure this had a lot to do with the long lines at the ATM machines scattered throughout the venue!
